Simple & fun... I think this is the first Dreamworks animated film that is incredibly solid... & you know why? Because it did not go the route of spoofing other films & making pop culture references to create humor (like Shrek & Madagascar)... something many comedy writers these days should learn.
Jack Black was a panda in another life. go watch this now :) | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
Okay... I'm sure Cloverfeild is a great film... it has an amazing storytelling structure & pulling off a big budget Hollywood Blockbuster with one camera is ground breaking. The effects are made seamless & believable by the shaky amateurish camera work & all the action scenes are punctuated with snippets of semi cheesy lovey dovey couple footage (the events of the disaster where supposedly filmed over an existing tape) so it make for great juxtaposition (woah big word for me). I am sure many (pretentious) young film makers are thinking of ways already of how to adapt this style into their projects (Naunahan na kaayo ni Abrams, huwag na please).
The dialog has no wit... it's all reactive & believable & yet it's not dragging & repetitive like in other mockumentaries... I would have given it a perfect score, but why 3 stars? Because I didn't finish it! not that I didn't want to, I did! (mahal din ang sine ngayon ha) Midway into the film, because of all the hand held camera movements & shaking & zooming & zooming out I had to run out to puke! Goodbye dinner (it is not fun to regurgitate a Mongolian bowl & sprite). The usher lady smiled... she said through out the day I am not the only one who was made sick by the film... I went back in to try to finish because I thought I was okay already but a few more minutes with I started to feel nauseated again... so I walked out & left my friends (who play 3d games a lot so their brains are conditioned to those constant shakes).
I was so pissed... why make a movie that would make people puke?... It is a great film but either catch it on a small screen or don't eat before watching it (or take Bonamine!). | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Romantic Comedy |
Enchanted isn't a perfect film... there are some bugs in it's plot & premise but that aside...oh Joy!
I have not had this much fun in a film in so long. What I like so much about it is that in it's modern presentation it did not try so hard to be modern & gross & gritty... it is as bubbly as all the great Disney films of old & yet makes fun of the Disney conventions while giving homage....it's not like a flimsy spoof in Mad Magazine (does that make sense?)
The visuals are fantastic & the lead actress really is a Disney Princess come to life. And the songs were written by the same guy who made all those Little Mermaid songs so even if your 28 or 40 or 9 you would walk out the film humming the tunes.
And there are singing rats & cockroaches... hehe
The story is predictable, yes, but the film still manages to draw you in.
Oh go watch it already (if you have not still).
PS: I shudder at the thought of how many imitations local entertainment would produce though. And how many commercial storyboards would have Enchanted as a peg. Hramn.... | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
Gaaaaaaah! It was Incredifabulous! Ultrafuckingamazing! I literally peed my pants & kept going "Yeah!"... so many fan boy moments & it was just so mindblowing! Watch now! Now! Now Now! I am on such a high after watching it! I was at the theater so early! I was so psyched out to watch & the movie lived up to it's hype! See how many exclamation marks I used?! Amazingly mindless fun!!!!
